Walking PolesWalking poles started with the cross country skiing sport.  For years, cross country skiing coaches would train their athletes with walking poles in the off season.  They discovered that the athletes maintained their peak performance, and even  improved weight loss, cardio, balance and energy levels by using walking poles.

Pole walking is great for weight loss and uses your entire body rather than just your legs.  One study showed an average of 22% higher calorie burn using walking poles, and an increased heart rate of 16% and increased lung capacity of 23% which are both indicators of improved cardiovascular health.

Pole walking also will improve your muscular endurance, and helps improve balance and stability, as well as increasing your energy!

The arm movement with poles will increase your strength, and increases your heart rate, and while you are burning more calories, you don’t feel like you are working any harder.   When using the walking poles, you are using 90% of your muscles, compared to only 50% of your muscles when walking without poles.  You are going to put your arm, chest, back and shoulder muscles through a full range of motion workout when you use the walking poles.  Your posture will improve, as you stretch those tight mucscles that are hunched over the computer right now!

The benefits of pole walking are comparable to a full body workout, with more calories burned, increased muscle strength, increased endurance, and improved balance and stability, as well as increased energy!
