Understanding Weight Loss Basics

July 25, 2010 by Ron Cripps

Persons who need to lose weight are constantly searching for diets that work. The trick isn’t really finding a diet plan that works, but rather locating a diet to which a person can stick. The 46.8 billion dollar diet industry (as of 2005) depends not on people staying healthy and staying thin, but rather on people taking an endless yo-yo ride between health and fat. Because repeat business brings in the cash, the focus is surely on the roller coaster reality of poor living followed by short stints of diets and health programs.

So you want a diet that delivers? Here’s one. Combine limiting caloric intake to 1000 calories each day with at least 30 minutes of exercise at least five times a week. That diet will result in shedding weight. But there are two problems.

#1 cravings will likely end the diet. Sooner or later, particularly after returning home from work outs, those 1000 calories won’t be sufficient to satisfy. One piece of cake, or just one bag of chips, or one extra hot dog will soon motivate you to end the diet.

It can also document their general day to day activities and movements as well as progress (or lack of progress) towards their stated weight loss goals.

Keeping track of your dieting progress.

Read about her weight loss yoga challenge and watch the video that accompanies the post.  It is an actual yoga lesson for beginners and experienced yoga practitioners as well.

“Authentic yoga gets us healthy in our minds and bodies. We don’t need a gym membership, weights, exercise machines, or boot camp. Somewhere along the evolution of fitness we decided health should be much more complicated than it needs to be. We gave our power away to exercise equipment gimmicks, swamis, and power-driven yoga leaders – which has lead us away from what yoga is all about. Yoga is powerful. It puts you back in touch with you, where all the good stuff is. When you practice you feel great, become healthy, and are put back in line with your intuition and awareness.

Is Healthy Weight Loss Possible?

March 28, 2010 by admin

by Erica Stone

It often happens that the desire to lose weight is so great, that people are ready to actually starve themselves in order to be rid of a few extra pounds but specialists point out that this is by no means the way to become thinner. Our health is a finely balanced mechanism which relies on a number of factors especially on the foods we eat, so healthy weight loss does not mean starvation which usually weakens our immune system.

Healthy weight loss and maintenance actually means to eat a healthy diet rich in the nutrients we need without excess calories. Many people forget just how important it is to have a decent night’s sleep for good health and body maintenance but just as important is burning off those excess calories found in the areas of fat most of carry around with us.

Avoid Falling in the Trap of These 5 Dieting Myths

December 29, 2009 by Raw Andrew

Honey BeeThere are numerous dieting myths flying around the internet and in the magazines. Everybody seems to have a different opinion when it comes to losing weight and dieting. Many unhealthy diets are talented at disguising themselves as good for you. Here are only some dieting myths you should avoid:

1) Sugar has more calories than honey: it is a wide spread belief that you should replace sugar with honey because it has fewer calories. But the fact is that honey contains more calories than sugar. One spoon of honey contains 65 calories while one spoon of sugar contains 15 calories. But still it is far healthier to eat honey instead of sugar because the sweetening force of honey is far greater than that of sugar which means you need to use less to obtain the same sweet taste.

2)From all the meats you can eat fish is the less full of fat choice:it is wide spread the idea that the fattiest fish meat that you can consume contains fewer fats than any low fat meat. This just isn’t true. For example tuna contains 13 grams of fats per 100 grams while 100 grams of turkey meat contains merely 3 grams of fats. You should still eat fish even if it is fattier and contains extra calories because the fats it contains are good beneficial fats. Fish contain omega 3 fats which help you prevent cardiovascular diseases.

How to Avoid Falling Off the Weight Loss Wagon during the Holidays

December 24, 2009 by admin

Holiday Dinner Two of the biggest holidays of the year are facing dieters. Wherever you go there will be food.  You know how you have sabotaged your diet in the past when you went out to a party or a restaurant and it wasn’t pretty.  You beat yourself up over it for days afterwards and had a hard time getting back onto your diet or healthy eating plan.  How will you cope this time?

The number one tip is to plan ahead and visualize where you are going and what you are going to do when you  get there.  Repeat to yourself as you get ready to go out that you are going out to socialize and see your friends and family, not just to eat.

Prepare a plan in  your mind.  Visualize yourself choosing healthy food as you see the food or read the menu.  See yourself choosing the veggies, or the fruit.  Visualize choosing a green salad with low cal dressing or oil and vinegar on the side. Watch as you are catching up with your friends and ignoring the bread basket and you pass it on down the table.  When you order you ask the waitress to broil that fish, not fry it.  Picture serving yourself at the buffet table with healthy choices and walking right by the high fat, high calorie foods.  You’re at the table passing food around family style and you help yourself to lots of veggies and a small portion of potatoes or none at all.  Watch yourself not even flinching as your friends all go up and get desserts and you just could care less about it.  Envision that you just keep on socializing and that you are having such a great time you don’t even think about the desserts.

The Truth About Fasting to Lose Weight

December 4, 2009 by admin

A Fasting Dayby Melissa Newton
Losing weight is always a challenge. It requires commitment, effort, and a serious amount of sacrifice before you can even achieve THE perfect body that you want. The path to weight loss can be so challenging that a lot of people feel compelled to choose a weight loss system that promises to work the soonest possible time. A few of the healthier weight loss programs usually include a diet, an exercise routine, and sometimes replacement meals. Sad thing is, because some people are so desperate, they end up trying more drastic measures like fasting to lose weight and eating synthetic supplements that have questionable sources and ingredients.

Do you have the time or patience to sift through all the diet programs on the market to find which one is right for you? Is fasting to lose weight okay? Isn’t there a magic pill that will melt the pounds right off your body? Well, I’m sorry to tell you the answer is no. The best and only way is to diet and exercise.

Please understand that being on a diet is far different that fasting. Dieting is eating healthy foods in small reasonable portions. Fasting is not eating, or trying to starve the weight off. Fasting to lose weight is not only harmful to your health, it will lower your body’s metabolism which will cause you to store fat, not actually lose any weight.
