There are numerous dieting myths flying around the internet and in the magazines. Everybody seems to have a different opinion when it comes to losing weight and dieting. Many unhealthy diets are talented at disguising themselves as good for you. Here are only some dieting myths you should avoid:
1) Sugar has more calories than honey: it is a wide spread belief that you should replace sugar with honey because it has fewer calories. But the fact is that honey contains more calories than sugar. One spoon of honey contains 65 calories while one spoon of sugar contains 15 calories. But still it is far healthier to eat honey instead of sugar because the sweetening force of honey is far greater than that of sugar which means you need to use less to obtain the same sweet taste.
2)From all the meats you can eat fish is the less full of fat choice:it is wide spread the idea that the fattiest fish meat that you can consume contains fewer fats than any low fat meat. This just isn’t true. For example tuna contains 13 grams of fats per 100 grams while 100 grams of turkey meat contains merely 3 grams of fats. You should still eat fish even if it is fattier and contains extra calories because the fats it contains are good beneficial fats. Fish contain omega 3 fats which help you prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Two of the biggest holidays of the year are facing dieters. Wherever you go there will be food. You know how you have sabotaged your diet in the past when you went out to a party or a restaurant and it wasn’t pretty. You beat yourself up over it for days afterwards and had a hard time getting back onto your diet or healthy eating plan. How will you cope this time?
The number one tip is to plan ahead and visualize where you are going and what you are going to do when you get there. Repeat to yourself as you get ready to go out that you are going out to socialize and see your friends and family, not just to eat.
Prepare a plan in your mind. Visualize yourself choosing healthy food as you see the food or read the menu. See yourself choosing the veggies, or the fruit. Visualize choosing a green salad with low cal dressing or oil and vinegar on the side. Watch as you are catching up with your friends and ignoring the bread basket and you pass it on down the table. When you order you ask the waitress to broil that fish, not fry it. Picture serving yourself at the buffet table with healthy choices and walking right by the high fat, high calorie foods. You’re at the table passing food around family style and you help yourself to lots of veggies and a small portion of potatoes or none at all. Watch yourself not even flinching as your friends all go up and get desserts and you just could care less about it. Envision that you just keep on socializing and that you are having such a great time you don’t even think about the desserts.

Sad thing is, because some people are so desperate, they end up trying more drastic measures like fasting to lose weight and eating synthetic supplements that have questionable sources and ingredients.
Do you have the time or patience to sift through all the diet programs on the market to find which one is right for you? Is fasting to lose weight okay? Isn’t there a magic pill that will melt the pounds right off your body? Well, I’m sorry to tell you the answer is no. The best and only way is to diet and exercise.
Please understand that being on a diet is far different that fasting. Dieting is eating healthy foods in small reasonable portions. Fasting is not eating, or trying to starve the weight off. Fasting to lose weight is not only harmful to your health, it will lower your body’s metabolism which will cause you to store fat, not actually lose any weight.

I really enjoyed reading this free ebook I ran across on Dave Navarro’s blog, Rock Your Day. It was about Time Management, but not your normal get a planner, block off time for yourself, for exercise, and for family time, blah, blah.
No, not at all like that, it was an inspiring look at how I think, and probably how most people think about their goals and hopes and dreams. I hope it’s not just me who has trouble with getting started working on a goal. This ebook was motivating because it made me think about my goals, and then showed how I could take a goal and make it a priority in my life. When that priority becomes a habit you’ll want to do it even more because you will feel motivated and good about your achievement. Dave even uses weight loss and exercise as examples in the book.

FDA Reviewing Safety of Xenical, Alli, Orlistat

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published a report that a safety review of the weight loss drugs, Orlistat, Xenical and Alli is ongoing.
The FDA is reviewing 32 cases of serious liver injuries, in patients who are taking weight loss drugs.
Between 1999 to 2008, the FDA received 27 reports of hospitalizations and 6 reports of liver failure in patients who were taking the over the counter weight loss drug, Alli, and the prescription form known as Xenical. Orlistat is the generic name of the drug, Alli and Xenical are the trade names.
